(Case 3) Solution providing for corporations / Investment banking, trust business

Under the uncertain circumstances for our corporate customers, providing highly sophisticated solutions for management issues such as business reorganization is more essential. SMBC aims to further enhance its capability to offer such solutions by promoting collaboration across units serving to individual, corporate and overseas customers and between these units and product-supplying departments, through three cross-sectional departments - Corporate Advisory Division, Private Advisory Dept. and Global Advisory Dept.

We are also taking measures to supply solutions that draw on the resources of all Group companies to formulate solutions. Specifically, SMBC Nikko Securities is expanding its solution-providing capability and capturing business opportunity through accelerating cooperation with SMBC. Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) is developing an aircraft operating lease business, which was added to the strategic joint business in leasing with Sumitomo Corporation in December 2008, as well as a variety of other leasing services that offer financial and sales solutions for both users and suppliers. The Japan Research Institute offers a lineup of high value-added services by continuously strengthening existing services that range from consulting for management reforms and IT utilization to the planning and creation of strategic IT systems.
