An environment where you can create work from scratch with your own hands

I joined the company in 2019 as a mid-career hire. The deciding factor in joining the company was my experience during the hiring interviews. While talking to a variety of employees in the course of the interviews, I gained a first-hand sense that this was a high-level environment where I could enjoy a great deal of discretion in my work. Just as I instinctually felt, I am indeed now enjoying my work here.

I find my work enjoyable because I can create it from scratch on my own. I am currently in charge of a project to introduce a management system for my customer’s assets as a project pursuing DX (digital transformation), considered a key approach for companies. Instead of just doing the work my boss has asked of me, I can proactively involve other project members in thinking about how to move the project ahead and responsibly laying the groundwork and undertaking other tasks. I am very grateful for an environment where the company believes in the capabilities of individual employees and allows them such a high degree of discretion. Furthermore, since our customers are major Japanese companies, every task is large in scale, and I find it very rewarding to build relationships through problem solving. Whenever I finish up a task, I get a sense of accomplishment as if I had raised a child.

Joining with colleagues to take on various challenges every day

Presently I am in charge of six projects, and one of the satisfying aspects of my work is that it changes every day. I am regularly being assigned new projects, so I have no routine work whatsoever and I have never done the same thing more than once. Since I concentrate on solving specific issues facing customers in the course of my day-to-day work, I may even have to refine my proposal nearly ten times, depending on the issue. It can be challenging, but I have a strong desire to do my best to support our customers properly.

If I encounter a problem that constitutes a major hurdle that is difficult to resolve on my own, I can count on the wholehearted support of not only project members with a diversity of backgrounds but also employees other than project members. In fact, when I encountered my first major challenge in a project after joining the company, I received front-line supports for months from people in multiple organizations, even the heads of those organizations. As a result of all the cross-departmental help I received, I was able to present the best proposals to our customer. Such experiences have made me want to be of similar help to someone else so, when I am consulted by someone, I am always happy to cooperate as much as I can.

In addition, I have established solid communication both horizontally and vertically and built up positive and flat relationships. For example, it has become common practice to use “Mr.” instead of “President” when referring to the Company’s president. My boss makes himself available for a one-on-one conversation every week where I can consult with him on work complaints, personal concerns and various other matters. Although he is my superior, I make it a point to convey my honest feelings without hesitation. I think we have a good corporate culture where, in a positive sense, hierarchical relationships are not severe. Before joining the company, I had a preconceived notion that the atmosphere of financial industry was cold, but our company proved to be the exact opposite of that impression.

Set high goals and continue to produce results, whether you are a mid-career hire or a new graduate joining our company.

In my opinion, our company’s greatest strength is an exquisite balance between stability and challenging spirit. By integrating with a foreign company (GE Capital), our company has fused the cultures and philosophies of both a Japanese firm and a foreign one in a well-balanced manner. Employees can freely demonstrate their individuality and skills in a stable working environment. I have a genuine sense that mid-career hires, in being permitted to define their own work styles for themselves and create projects from scratch, are equally trusted as people who joined the company straight out of university.

I also think that the emphasis on CSR is a point in its favor. Instead of working for short-term profits, an attitude of bearing in mind the social significance of one’s work for the customer and for society has taken root. I believe this boosts the motivation of employees working at our company and makes it easier for them to derive a feeling of accomplishment.
Even while setting high goals and devising ways of pursuing work, we need to constantly enhance our knowledge across a broad range and study to acquire higher-level skills in order to continue producing results. In that respect, our company has extensive training resources. In addition to our company’s own training, we can participate in the training programs of group companies as well as external training, and I do not feel there is any “barrier” within the group in terms of studying. There are also many professionals within the company who usually provide customers with knowledge about facilitation and project implementation, so I am always studying.

I am excited to think that, by working hard and growing every day, myself in the future may be in a place that I cannot even imagine at the moment. As I grow, I want to remain aware of the correct benchmarks. Even when my work has been successful, I keep reminding myself that I must not simply be content with praise from those around me. You need to broaden your horizons on a regular basis, not just in connection to any specific contract or project, and objectively look at whether what you have done has become out of date and is really creating new value.
In future, I would like us to make our company one that shines as an advanced digital company and as an entity that can bring change and value to as many customers as possible. To that end, I hope to continue truly enjoying my work and taking on challenges without fear of failure.

Special memory

We must not neglect daily self-improvement if we are to provide customers with reliable value. I particularly like in-house training that allows me to learn views on work from outstanding people that I cannot usually meet.

The Quality Office, where professionals with diverse backgrounds gather to improve themselves by learning from and following each other and work together with front-line personnel.
