SMBC Group is committed to health management initiatives aimed at supporting the physical and mental well-being and motivation of our employees. These efforts are designed to ensure the continual provision of high value-added services for our customers.

Main initiatives to promote and accelerate health management

Statement on Health Management; Appointment of CHO

Each of our Group companies regards the promotion of employee health as a critical management issue and has established a Statement on Health Management.
We have also appointed a Chief Health Officer (CHO).

Group companies, health insurance associations, and health support centers are working together to create an environment where employees can work enthusiastically and maintain good health.

Various medical examinations

In addition to conducting periodic health examinations, Group companies actively provide targeted health-related guidance to prevent lifestyle diseases.

Mental health initiatives

To enable individuals to manage their own mental health, we conduct stress checks for all employees. Additionally, to support mental health self-care, line care (where managers and supervisors who have daily contact with workers improve the working environment and consult with them), and reassignments, we offer consultation services with outside specialist counselors. We also provide follow-up training for managers in offices with particularly high stress levels.

Action on smoking

We work closely with the health insurance society to help employees quit smoking by subsidizing their participation in an online smoking cessation program. Additionally, we observe a "No Smoking Day" every month and provide e-learning courses on the dangers of tobacco and secondhand smoke.

Health support for women and Event hosting

We regularly organize "health promotion seminars" for all employees to enhance their health awareness and literacy. These seminars feature external speakers who cover a variety of topics, encouraging employees to take proactive steps toward maintaining their health.

For example, a health promotion seminars on topics such as diet, exercise, sleep and quitting smoking, and also seminars specifically for women, covering topics like infertility treatment and menopausal disorders. In FY2023, more than 750 employees participated.

In addition, November has been designated “Wellness Month,” during which we conduct initiatives focused on health management. In FY2023, we held a running and walking event near Japan’s Imperial Palace for the entire Group. Athletes with disabilities and employees from all Group companies had exchanges, and the event helped to establish exercise habits and encouraged communication.
